ANDREW Y. GREER, PIONEER ARIZONAN, DIES AT HOME HERE
Andrew Young Greer, 89, an Escondido resident for 26 years and a member of Arizona's first agricultural and horticultural commission, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday at his home, 410 West Seventeenth avenue.

Born Oct 20, 1861, in Tennessee, he lived for many years in Arizona, where he was active in work of the farm bureau. He homesteaded 160 acres in Yuma valley in 1899. From 1916 to 1925, he was a director of the First National Bank of Arizona.

Mr. Greer was a member of the First Methodist Church. He was a frequent contributor to the Magazine and Picture page of The Times-Advocate, writing articles on his early-day experiences.

Survivors include his widow, Anna; a daughter, Mrs. Dora M. Allen of Escondido; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Greer of Belle Glade, Fla.; and two sisters, Mrs. Rena Hankins of Belle Glade and Mrs. Effie Whitehead of Meade, Kan.

Funeral services will be held at 10 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of the Carl G. Palm mortuary here. Rev. Clell C. Gray, pastor of the First Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Memorial park.

Funeral services for Andrew Y. Greer were held Saturday morning from the chapel of the Carl G. Palm mortuary. Rev. Clell C. Gray, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiated. He was assisted by Rev. John Barnhart.

Russell Avery sang two solos, "Abide With Me" and "We may Not Climb the Heavenly Steps." He was accompanied at the organ by Helen Thatcher Stoddard.

Members of Mr. Greer's Sunday school class of the local Methodist church served as pall-bearers. Burial was in Oak Hill Memorial park.

Andrew Y. Greer was the son of Andrew Vance & Catharine (Gregory) Greer (see Dice Cemetery, Newton Co., MO.). He married Anna Elizabeth Grose in 1891 in Excondido.
