Gouverneur, April 14 - A telegram was received here yesterday announcing the death in Buffalo of S. M. Legate, aged 87, at the home of his son, Merton Legate. The deceased was a former resident of Gouverneur and several of his relatives reside here. He was a traveling salesman for several years. He usually made it a point to visit Gouverneur during the annual fair exhibition, when he would be able to see a great number of his old friends. He was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in Company I, Scott's 900.
The survivors are two sons, Merton of Buffalo and Charles of Hartford, Conn.; a daughter, Mrs. S. W. Lambie of Brooklyn; and two brothers, Harvey P. and Dexter Legate of Gouverneur.
The funeral will be held Friday at 3 from the home of the son in Buffalo.
