W.R. Adams, 87, retired farmer and farm leader who lives east of Wellington for more than 60 years, died in Collingsworth General Hospital at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 31.
For several years he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Leslie Moore.
Until he retired, it was never disputed that Mr. Adams was one of the county's best cotton farmers. Not only did he strive for excellence in production, he also felt a concern for the conservation of the land he worked and he cared for it according to his feeling. He experienced both good and bad years, but he was always modest of his own achievements.
Mr. Adams served for a number of years on the board of directors of the Farmers Co-Op Gin. He was a church leader as well and was a long time member of the board of the Church of the Nazarene.
William Roland Adams was born at Elgin September 27, 1891. As a young man, he went to Dalhart and worked briefly as a cowboy, but a short time later he came to Wellington.
He was married to Mary J. Dickey August 12, 1912. She preceded him in death.
Surviving Mr. Adams are his daughter, Mrs. Moore; two grandsons, Harold Wayne Moore of Wellington and Don Moore of Santa Ana, CA; five grandchildren; and one brother, Joe P. Adams of Napierville, IL.
