Beezley was 21, and living in Winterset, when he enlisted as a Private in Co. I of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Nov. 5, 1861. He was mustered into federal service on Dec. 5, 1861.
Beezley took part in the Battle of Columbus, GA, where he was killed in action. The 4th Iowa Cavalry suffered 2 killed in action, and 9 wounded.
The enemy lost some 1,500 men either killed, or wounded and captured along with 63 guns, a navy yard, a ram for sea service, and great quantities of military property and supplies.
He was the son of Joseph and Cyntha Beezley.
