Edwin F. Treat "Ed", 72, died at 2:08 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004 in York Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Carole S. (Schmidt) Treat. The couple celebrated 40 years of marriage on Dec. 31, 2003. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1 p.m. today, at The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, 140 N. Beaver St., York. His pastor, the Rev. Gretchen M. Rehberg will be offciating. Interment will follow the service in Prospect Hill Cemetery and the York County Veterans Honor Guard will give military rites. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Home, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Treat was born on October 6, 1931 in Fort Howard, Md., He was the son of the late Francis "Frank" A. and Lucina (Bellows) Treat. Ed was a 1949 graduate of Sparrows Point High School and also graduated from The American Institute of Banking in Baltimore. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, as well as military body guard for President Harry Truman. He later reenlisted in the U.S. Army where he was a "Jump Master" with the 82nd Airborne. Ed made 68 jumps during his service with the 82nd, including breaking his back on the 65th jump and spending a year in a body cast. Ed worked for 31 years in cemetery management, sales, and consulting. He was a member of St. John's Episcoal Church in York, American Legion Post #543, and was a member of the former Red Lion Country Club. Mr. Treat is survived by two sons, Leonard F. Treat and wife, Sara of Bloomsburg, Robert F. Treat and wife, Denise of Etters; three daughters, Sylvia J. Stetz and husband, Steven of Stevensville, Md., Holly Treat-Kline and husband, Christopher of Brogue, and Edith C. Enfield and husband, Jeffrey of Red Lion; 11 grandchildren, Joseph Ruth, Leaonard F. Treat II, Kayla Enfield, Shanna (Keckler) Treat, Kristina (Keckler) Treat, Logan Treat Kline, Nikki Elizabeth Kline, Mallory Taylor Kline, Tyler Scott Enfield, and Alexis Treat Enfield. Two great-grandchildren Joshua Ruth, and Caley Mia Treat. His two brothers preceeded him in death, Emery J. Treat and Paul Percival. The family requests that contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105
