Author and researcher. Earl Chafin was a leading researcher and prolific author of numerous self-published books in the field of Earpiana - the study of the life and times of Wyatt Earp, Old West peace officer and frontier legend. Following his service in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1949, Earl studied history and graduated from the University of Southern California in 1954. After retiring in 1997 from a successful career in electronics sales and marketing, he began his own publishing firm, The Earl Chafin Press, and published some 25 books on various aspect of Earp's life. In the often contentious world of Earp research and writing, he was a staunch defender of Wyatt's reputation as a peace officer and "good guy." He was widely respected for his work by authorities such as the Arizona Historical Society and the Arizona State Archives.
