Obituary from The Cambridge, Furnas County
Harry Babbitt was born Aug 3, 1893 at Cambridge, NE and spent most of his life at the place of his birth.
On the 21st of July 1915 it was his privilege to unite in holy wedlock with Miss Grace Jacobs at Blackfoot, Idaho.
To this happy union was born a precious child, a daughter, which is named Virginia, to gladden and make more complete their home.
The deceased with his wife and baby went to Calif. the seventh of last March and has since enjoyed the association of his eldest sister Mrs. Judah Myers.
Mr. Babbitt with his wife and baby left town to spend the day with his wife's sister who lives a short distance Northwest of Biola Station. After lunch Mr. Babbitt and his young nephew, Paul Myers went down to the river for a swim. they had been in the water but a short time when young Myers heard a cry and turning saw Mr. Babbitt sink below the surface. Myers swam over to the spot where Mr. Babbitt had disappeared and after great effort succeeded in catching hold of his uncle's hands. He was unable to draw him up, however, and called for help. Help was at hand and everything possible was done to restore the activities of life but as the life word says"----reap of man" the pilgrimage of our fellow sojourn closed after he had spent 23 years 11 months and 10 days with us.
He is survived by his wife and infant daughter, his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Babbitt of Cambridge, four brothers, Cecil of Bartley, Nebraska, Earl of Green Castle, Mo. Oran of Cambridge and Harrey of Scotts Bluff, Neb.. and seven sisters--Mrs. Judah Myers of Kerman, Calif., Mrs. Will Smith of Emporia, Kansas, Mrs. Robert Mousel, Mrs. Ira Chandler and Misses Bertha, Fay and Buelah Babbitt of Cambridge, besides many other near relatives and friends all of whom will greatly miss him as he was a faithful and kind husband, a fond father, a dutiful son and an affectionate brother, being of a very sociable nature.
After religious services in Calif the body of the deceased was brought to Cambridge and a formal service conducted in the mothers home by Rev A D. Barnes. Music was furnished by a music quartet. A very large company of friends attended the service and the-----------------to the Cambridge Cemetery.
