Lonnie Beckam Bertram was the son of Rosa Senabelle (DeRossett) and Porter Harrison Bertram.
He left Sunnybrook, Wayne Co., Kentucky as a young man and walked to Fentress Co., Tennesse to board with his fathers's cousin, the Baptist preacher, George Washington Brown. He lived with Brother George and his wife, Martha, while working for them on their farm. There he fell in love with the couple's older daughter, Alma. They were married on 24 May 1927 in Allardt, Fentress Co., Tennessee.
Beckam and Alma had 5 children:
~ Nova T.
~ Nora Jean (called Jean)
~ Betty Jane
~ Bessie J.
~ Fount W.
There has been some confusion about his name. His parents called him Lonnie when he was a boy and he was still using that name when he married Alma. Not long after that he dropped the Lonnie and went by his middle name. Although he was called Beckam as an adult he signed his name as L.B. Bertram. He spelled the name Beckam without an h, although some records misspell it. In fact, his first tombstone was replaced partly due to this discrepancy.
Beckam was a hard working, religious man but was full of fun and wit. He was a popular story teller with old and young alike. He would give almost anything he owned to others he believed deserving but had no use for the shiftless, lazy or dishonest. His family adored him and still miss him.
