PENNINGTON "PENNY" BROWN WAS THE 11TH CHILD BORN TO LUCILLE AND ELDER BROWN ON MAY 16 1930 IN ST.LOUIS MO. HE AND HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS WERE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE ST.LOUIS COMMUNITY AS THE MANY P BROWNS BECAUSE ALL THERE NAMES BEGAN WITH THE LETTER P PENNY GRADUATED FROM VASHON HIGH SCHOOL IN 1947 HE DEVELOPED A LOVE FOR BOXING AND PURSUED AN AMATEUR BOXING CAREER HE FOUGHT IN THE GOLDEN GLOVES WINNING THE 126 POUND NOVICE DIVISION THE OZARK OPEN 126 POUND AND 147 POUND CROWNS.PROFESSIONALLY HE FOUGHT 43 FIGHTS BETWEEN 1947 AND 1956 HIS RECORD CONSISTED OF 27 WINS 13 LOSSES AND 3 DRAWS. HE MARRIED DORIS BROWN IN 1954 TO THIS UNION 3 CHILDREN WERE BORN 1 DAUGHTER PENNIE AND 2 SONS ANTHONY(DECEASED) AND KELVIN. PENNY WAS INDUCTED INTO THE GATEWAY CLASSIC CITY RECREATION HALL OF FAME IN 1997. PENNY ALSO SERVED IN THE ARMY IN 1950.
