Lord Clifford, hereditary Sheriff of Westmorland.
Son of Sir John Clifford and Elizabeth Percy. Grandson of Sir Thomas Clifford and Elizabeth Roos, Henry 'Hotspur' Percy and Elizabeth de Mortimer.
Husband of Joan or Jane Dacre, daughter of Lord Thomas Dacre and Philippe de Neville. They were married after March 1424 and had four sons and five daughters:
* John, Lord Clifford, married Margaret Blomflete
* Sir Roger, married Joan Courtenay
* Sir Robert, executed 1485 at Tower Hill
* Sir Thomas
* Elizabeth, wife of Sir William Plumpton
* Maud, wife of Sir John Harington & Sir Edmund Sutton
* Anne, wife of Sir Richard Tempest & William Conyers
* Joan or Jane, wife of Simon Musgrave

Thomas inherited his title when his father was slain at the Siege of Meaux when Thomas was seven. He was summoned to Parliament in 1436, fought in France with John of Lancaster, Duke of Bedford, in France 1435, and led the English forces defending Pontoise in 1439. In May 1453, he contracted to marry Elizabeth Dacre, the lady in waiting for Queen Margaret. The marriage never took place as she married Sir John Butler.
Sir Thomas was killed along with his uncle, Sir Henry Percy, Earl of Northumberland and Sir Edmund Beaufort, the Duke of Somerset at the First Battle of St Albans, 22 miles north of London, fighting with Lancaster during the very first battle of the War of the Roses on 22 May 1455, succeeded by his eldest son, John.
