Pfc. Stephen D. Bicknell of Prattville, Alabama was a 2005 graduate of Prattville High School and a standout on the football field. He played in the 2004 state championship game against Hoover. He was the recipient of a scholarship to The University of West Alabama. He could never say no to anyone who asked him for help. He always put the needs of others before himself. He was very family oriented and cheerful. He would go out of his way to speak to you. He was a professional, competent and proficient paratrooper. Bicknell is survived by his wife, Miranda, and his parents. Stephen was a devoted husband, father-to-be, son, brother, teammate, and friend. For his meritorious service, while assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment during Operation Iraqi Freedom, he posthumously was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. For wounds received as a result of hostile actions, he was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, and for his exemplary behavior, efficiency and fidelity in active Federal military service, he was awarded The Good Conduct Medal. His commitment contributed to our Nation's continual war on terror and his actions represented his dedication to the security of the United States of America. No greater honor can be demonstrated by his ultimate sacrifice and he will be forever remembered for his actions. He died a patriot while proudly serving his country in Samari, Iraq at age 19.
