Cahill dies ex-Waukesha County D.A.
Former Waukesha County District Attorney Jerome H. Cahill died over the weekend. He was 76.
Cahill, who was living in Wabasha, Minn., at the time of his death Saturday, served as district attorney from 1974 to 1982.
He retired from the post after serving four two-year terms, telling reporters at that time that he planned to move to his Dodge County home on Sinissippi Lake and sell real estate.
Known as a colorful, sometimes gruff, often charming lawyer, Cahill served in the U.S. Air Corps in the early 1940s and again in the service in the 1950s.
He was born in Fond du Lac and lived in Oconomowoc for many years.
Cahill, who joined the district attorney's office in 1967 as a deputy district attorney, was first elected district attorney in 1974 as a Democrat. Two years later, he switched political parties and won as a Republican.
Cahill was in private practice for about 15 years before being hired by Waukesha County.
He received an award in 1982 from the Waukesha County Police Association for his service.
Services will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Juneau at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
