Funeral Services for Elmer Hyman Black, 94, Who died at the home of his daughter, late Monday evening, Nov 19, will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kinsley and Lee in Winslow, at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, with Bishop Alan Cardon officiating.

Mr. Black, a long time resident of Winslow, was born in Portland, Oregon, Oct. 24, 1885, and moved to Flagstaff in 1906 where he worked as a Jeweler. He moved to Winslow in January, 1916, where he was the Santa Fe Watch Inspector and he opened the Black Jewelry, which he owned and operated, until ill health forced him into semi - retirement and moving to a warmer climate in 1946 at which time he moved to Glendale, Arizona.
Regaining his health, he opened Black's Jewelry in Glendale in 1951, which he operated until he retired in 1971.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM #23 of Glendale. He was the oldest living member of the B.P.O.E. "Elks Lodge #536 of Winslow, initiated into the Elks in the Flagstaff Lodge in 1912 and transferring to the Winslow Lodge in 1916. He became a lifetime member April 1, 1972 and was 67 years a member.
He was the last Charter member of Rotary International of the Winslow Chapter. While a resident of Winslow he was very civic minded, serving as Mayor of Winslow 1928-30 and 14 years as Councilman between 1924 and 1946. He was instrumental in securing for Winslow the Winslow Airport and in getting the first paved streets for the city.

Survivors include a daughter Patricia Stratton of 314 Campbell Ave. in Winslow, 7 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, a son-in-law, Warren J. Parks of Litchfield Park, Arizona.

Friends may call at the Scott Chapel from 6 until 8 P.M. Thursday.
