Mary Lou Perry
Mary Lou Perry died March 28, 2001. Born Nov. 17, 1918, to the late Ray and Julia Ames Perry, she was 82.
She was born in Seattle, Wash. and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. She received an A.B. in zoology from UC Berkeley in 1941. She worked as a research assistant at the California Academy of Sciences from the mid-1940s to the early 1950s, where she was a writer and animal handler for the television series, "Science in Action" on KGO-TV in San Francisco. She joined the staff of UC Davis in 1953 and retired in 1988, having worked in the School of Veterinary Medicine, the department of veterinary microbiology and in cooperative extension. She was a lifelong animal lover and student of nature. She described two new species of parasitic worms as well as wrote several popular articles about bats. She also enjoyed music, sketching and writing verse.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Miriam Perry; nephews, Warren and Don Perry; niece, Diane Griffin; three grand-nieces, two grand-nephews and three beloved cats.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Ames Perry.
A private burial was held at Davis Cemetery. Davis Funeral Chapel handled the arrangements. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to the Yolo County SPCA, P.O. Box 510, Davis, CA 95617 or Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014

Mary Lou was a good friend to me for a short time in the late 80's in Davis. She made me laugh and appreciate life. I miss you, Mary Lou, and your twinkling eyes.|
