Warren G. Ball was born September 23, 1858 in Arkansas, son of Elbridge Mason Ball (1836-1864) and Elizabeth Jane Lawrence (1840-1922). Elizabeth Jane had been married before to Joseph Mobley who died in 1860. The Arkansas County Marriage Index shows that Eldridge M. Ball, age 23, and and Elizabeth Jane Mobley, age 19, were married on January 1, 1861 in Independence County, Arkansas. This information and the information shown in the 1870 census as well as in the marriage record for Warren Ball would indicate that Warren's birthdate reflected on his tombstone more appropriately should be 1862 rather than 1858; however, the 1900 census states that Warren's birthdate is October 1958.
The 1870 Federal Census for Barren, Arkansas (Independence Arkansas) shows Warren Ball, age 8, born in Arkansas; living with his mother, Elizabeth Crow, age 29, born in Arkansas; and her third husband, James H. The 1920 Federal Census for Taylor, Arkansas (Craighead County) shows Warren G. Ball, a farmer, age 62, born in Arkansas; and his wife, Kattie N. Ball, a housewife, age 60, born in Arkansas. Living with them were four children: Mary Ball, age 24; Lottie Ball, age 17; Theodora Ball, age 14; and Edith K. Ball, age 11; all born in Arkansas.
