Melanie Kay Allison was born in Hammond, Louisiana, the daughter of educator's Preston and Melba Allison. Her father was principal at Southeastern High School and later Dean of Education at Southeastern Louisiana University, while her mother oversaw dance and physical education at Southeastern.
Melanie attended Southeastern Louisiana College, the University of Alabama Birmingham, and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge obtaining her Master's Degree in Education.
While attending Southeastern Louisiana College (now University) as an undergraduate she wed Michael Flaherty at First Baptist Church in Hammond, Louisiana, in 1968, and moved to Huntsville and Birmingham, Alabama.
She later moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, obtained her Masters degree and was employed as an educator. She died unexpectedly in February, 1979.
She was a beautiful, witty, and intelligent woman who left us far too early and is missed by all who knew her.
Survived by parents Preston and Melba Allison, and one brother, Kevin.
