August lived with his brother,Albert, in Idaho in 1911, then later in Montana. WWI draft card has a different birthdate July 5, 1876. He had blue eyes and light hair, was tall with a medium build and listed his sister, Mrs. John Hartman of Alma as his next of kin. In Sept 12, 1918, August was a farmer In Bonner's Ferry, ID, age 42.
He died at age 77 in the Weldons Rest Home in Missoula of pneumonia hypostatic and also had arteriosclerosis cerebral hemorage of 2 weeks duration. He was divorced at the time of his death and a rancher by occupation. Informant was his brother, John D. Hess. The death record states that he was buried at Missoula Cemetery, MT.

AUGUST C. HESS TAKEN BY DEATH
August C. Hess, 77, a retired farmer who resided at 2200 S. 7th St., died Tuesday evening at a local rest home. The body is at the Squire-Simmons-Carr Mortuary and funeral arrangements are pending.
Mr. Hess was born at Nelson, Wis., July 6, 1876 and is survived by two brothers, John D. of Missoula, and Albert F. of Sidney, a sister, Mrs. Charles Johnston of Minneapolis and several nieces and nephews.
