As the first-born, he was given the names of his two grandfathers - Hiram Houston Braly and Samuel "Saul" Landman. He grew-up in Lauderdale County farming and raising livestock. When over-planted soil was too poor to grow crops - the Braly family moved to Texas, eventually ending up in Montague/Wise counties south of the Red River.
In Audubon,Wise County, Texas Sam married Ida Viola Wilson on 10 Nov 1891. They had ten children - 3 buried at New Harp, Montague, TX - the others lived to adulthood and are buried at various Texas locations and CA.
He was a Board Member of Swisher County School Board - and an ordained Elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Tulia. He farmed and raised stock his entire lifetime - and always produced a large garden of vegetables and fruit. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
