Carole L. Horning Gabe, 65, of Hanover, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at Autumn Woods Health Care Campus in New Albany.
She was born Sept. 8, 1941, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of Edward F. Jr. and Louise A. Horning. She graduated from Assumption High School, the University of Louisville, and the Master's of Education program of Bellarmine University. She taught at several parochial schools in Louisville, and after retiring to Hanover, taught at the Southwestern Schools and the Prince of Peace Schools. She also worked at the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Charles Gabe; two sons, Ed Gabe of Lexington, Ky., and David Gabe of Louisville, Ky.; one brother, Edward F. Horning III; her stepfather, Charles J. Meyer; two stepsisters, Carol Johnson and Patty Durham; three stepbrothers, Tom Meyer, Bruce Meyer and Ken Meyer; one aunt and one uncle.
She was preceded in death by her father and her mother, Louise A. Horning Meyer.
A Mass to celebrate her life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be private later at Hanover Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from 10:30 a.m. Friday until the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library.

HANOVER GABE, CAROLE L. (HORNING), 65, died on Monday, March 12, 2007. Carole was a wife of 42 years to her husband Charles and mother to her sons Ed (Shannan) of Lexington, KY, and David (Elizabeth) of Louisville. A native of Louisville, KY, she was born September 8, 1941 to the late Edward F. Horning Jr. and the late Louise A. (Horning) Meyer. In addition to her husband and sons, Carole is survived by her brother, Edward F. Horning III; her step-father, Charles J. Meyer; stepsisters, Carol Johnson (Ron) and Patty Durham (Tom); stepbrothers, Tom Meyer (Ann), Bruce Meyer (Dale), and Ken Meyer; her aunt, Emily Martinez (Homer); and uncle, Donald F. Adams. Carole completed her education earning the highest honors at Assumption High School, the University of Louisville, and the Masters of Education program of Bellarmine University. Carole taught at several parochial schools in Louisville and after retiring to Hanover, IN, taught at the Southwestern Schools and the Prince of Peace Catholic Schools. Carole also enjoyed working at the Jefferson County (Madison, IN) Public Library. A Mass to celebrate Carole's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2007 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison, IN, with visitation beforehand at 10:30 a.m. The immediate family will conduct a private interment ceremony in the Hanover Presbyterian Church Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of her lifelong dedication to education, gifts in Carole's memory are suggested to the Jefferson County (Madison, IN) Public Library.
