|Birth: ||Feb. 29, 1835|
|Death: ||Apr. 5, 1908|
Mary Caroline Hendrix Bell was born the last day of February 1835, probably in Bryan County, Georgia. Her tombstone reads February 29. (There was no February 29 in 1835, but there was in 1836.) The daughter of Robert McGinty Hendrix and Sophia Aaron Hendrix, Mary Hendrix Bell had seven siblings, including a sister, Lucinda Hendrix Bell. Lucinda married William H. Bell, and Mary married his brother James Daniel Bell, and they had eight children: David Clayton Bell, Sr., Andrew P. Bell, Emily S. Bell, Daniel Mack Bell, Mary C. Bell, Martha Elizabeth Bell Braid, J. Clayton Bell, and Moses F. Bell. She was 73 when she died on April 5, 1908 in Bryan County and is buried in Little Creek Cemetery in Bryan County. Her ancestry was English, Welsh, and Scots. Family folklore has it that she was descended through the Bowen line of her paternal grandmother from English royalty back to King Edward I. I hope one of her descendents will add her photo to this site.
