Joy Craven Duey died January 30, 1997, a resident of Asbury's Wilson Health Care Center. Born September 22, 1902 in Pierce, Nebraska and raised in Pierce and Albion, Nebraska. In 1920 she was a member of the Nebraska girls high school championship basketball team. Immediately after high school she began teaching in one room schools. When Joy could, she went to college and ended up with a Masters in Education in 1958 from the University of Maryland. In 1936 after a serious illness Joy and her husband Guy moved to the Washington, D.C. area and immediately started teaching in Montgomery County, Maryland. In 1938 she started teaching at Garrett Park Elementary School and ended up as Principal. Joy retired in 1968. In retirement she spent time in Boynton Beach, Florida and finally at the Asbury Village Retirement Home in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Guy Duey, in 1977.
She is survived by her daughter Muriell D. Martin of Commerce, Georgia and Herbert D. Duey of Houston, TX. She has six grand sons and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Asbury Village.
