Isaac Luke Bohannon was born in Huntsville, Arkansas, in 1864. Following the Civil War he moved to Phelps County with his parents and four brothers: James Bohannon (who was a Civil War veteran of the 1st Ark Infantry), Carter Bohannon, Silas Bohannon and George Bohannon. The Bohannons lived on what are known as Beaver Ridge and Pea Ridge (also Poole Hollow). At Poole Hollow Cave on 17 Aug 1881, there was a gathering of all the pioneers in the area for a picnic and old-time dance. An argument, supposedly over the sale of some land, started between George Bohannon and one William Light, who was one of the musicians. George pulled out a .32 pistol and shot William Light in the heart. William died on the spot. William Light was unarmed and George was tried and sentenced to hang. On 22 April 1882, he was hanged in Rolla. The scaffolding was built where Rolla Cemetery is located. George is buried in the Pea Ridge Cemetery.

Silas Bohannon moved away and was never heard from. Carter Bohannon moved to Afton, Ok, and remained there. Luke Bohannon married Lisa Coffee and built a log cabin on what is now known as the Grotto Road, just west of Newburg. James Bohannon lived with Luke until his death on 23 March 1932. He is buried in the Newburg Cemetery.

Luke and Lisa had one son, Fred Bohannon, and four daughters: Ida Bohannon, who married Columbus Bell; Elizabeth Bohannon, who married Walter Smith; Della Bohannon, who married Norman Smith; and Lee Bohannon, who married Ben "Piney" Smith. Norman, Walter and Ben Smith were not related.

Lisa Bohannon died in 1932 and is buried in the Newburg Cemetery. Luke Bohannon died on 23 Oct 1939 and is buried in Newburg Cemetery. Lisa's mother, Betsy Coffee (nee Shipman), is also buried in the Newburg Cem. Della and Norman Smith are buried in the Pea Ridge Cemetery. Lee and Ben "Piney" Smith are buried in the Dittmer Cemetery, Dittmer, MO. Elisabeth Smith (nee Bohannon) is buried there also. Fred Bohannon is buried in the Rolla Cemetery.
