|Birth: ||Feb. 4, 2005|
|Death: ||Apr. 15, 2012|
On Sunday, April 15th, shortly after 5 pm, our precious baby girl, Ila Jean, received her miracle. She was completely healed in the kingdom of heaven. To say our hearts are broken does not come close to what we are feeling; however at the very same time we feel at peace. We know how very much she was suffering and she will never have to suffer again. We were blessed with one of God's most beautiful angels and it was her time to go back home to heaven.
Ila Jean was the true essence of what it is to be a fighter. Ila never let her cancer win over her spirit. She had battled Stage IV Neuroblastoma on and off since 2006 when she was just 18 months old. Ila stayed true to her spunky little demeanor throughout it all bringing many smiles to many faces along the way. All it took was a flash of those big blue eyes and you were hooked. Her laughter and smile were infectious and anyone who met her instantly fell in love with her. Ila Jean adored her brother Howie and sister Monica more than anything. All she needed was their company to make her happy. Our beautiful girl, singer, dancer and artist will be forever in our hearts and the hearts of every person that has ever met her.
Ila was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, John Rathbone; her maternal grandmother, Monica Alden and her uncle Peter Alden.
Survivors include her beloved parents, John and Jennifer Alden Rathbone; adoring siblings, Howie and Monica; loving grandparents, George Alden and his wife Helen and Jane Jennings and her husband Robert; several aunts, uncles and cousins that she loved so very much, Adam, Brian, George, Gregory, Caileigh, Bridget, Jessica and Raven; her loving friends at CPIMS; and especially the love of her life, "her fiancÚ," Kieran Hathaway.
We want to thank our Neuroblastoma Family for all of the love and support throughout the years and especially now as well as our online family through Ila's website on Caring Bridge and Coles Pages. Thank you to all of the people involved with Ila's care over the years at Albany Medical Center Children's Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and The National Institute of Health. It was with the help of these wonderful doctors and nurses that Ila was able to fight and be with us for as long as she was. A very special thank you to Dr. Joanne Porter for being here for Ila and our family as she got to the end of her journey.
Services will be held on Thursday at 8:30 am from the Ferrari Funeral Home, 1503 Union St. (at McClellan St.), then to Our Lady Queen of Peace, Princetown Rd., where a Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am. Interment to follow in Sts. Cyril and Method Cemetery, Rotterdam.
