26 Sep 1963 George Rogers, 50, who lived with his brother, Frank Rogers, on a farm about three miles south of Huntsville died in a gun accident last Saturday afternoon near the home. Sheriff Fred Crumley reported that Mr. Rogers was shot in the chest with a .30-.30 rifle as he apparently fell over a barb ware fence he was attempting to cross. Investigation of the accident was made by Sheriff Crumley, City Marshal Erton Womack and State Trooper James Cottrell. Mr. Rogers was born in this county Oct. 1, 1912, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Rogers of Rt. 1, Wesley, in the Drakes Creek community. Survivors include his parents; his wife, Mrs. Edna Rogers, of La Habra, Calif.; one son, James S. Rogers of La Habra; four brothers, Frank Rogers of Route 6, Huntsville, Bill Rogers of Route 1, Wesley, Sherman Rogers of Claremore, Okla., and Freeman Rogers of Fullerton, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Bybee of La Habra; and Mrs. Ruth Ridenhour of Claremore, Okla., and one grandchild. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Drakes Creek Baptist Church with Merritt Youngblood, Church of Christ minister of Huntsville, conducting. Graveside services were held at Claremore, Okla at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside. Brashears Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
