Actor, Television Sportscaster. He was the television and radio announcer for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League, and a color commentator at the 1960 Summer Olympic Games in Rome, Italy. He began his career as an actor in radio, theater and motion pictures before beginning his announcer career in Los Angeles, California. In addition to broadcasting, he worked as an umpire in minor league baseball's Pacific Coast League, and was the host of feature horse races at Hollywood Park, Santa Anita, and Del Mar Raceways. His notable film credits as an actor include "Girl Crazy" (1943), "Kilroy Was Here" (1947), "Stalag 17" (1953), "The Wild One" (1953), "The Cat from Outer Space" (1978), "Inside Moves" (1980) and "Dismembered" (2003). His numerous television appearances included the programs "Dragnet," "The Red Skelton Show," "Police Story," "Wonder Woman," "Archie Bunker's Place," "Cagney and Lacey" and "Remington Steele." He was the recipient of two local Emmy Awards and six Golden Microphone Awards from the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California, and was an inductee into the Sportscasters Hall of Fame. (bio by: Nils M.
