Rose Mary Thompson, 69, 4301 Pearl Ave., died at 12:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Thompson was born May 14, 1928, at Independence and lived in Joplin most of her life. She worked for The Empire District Electric Co. as a secretary for about 15 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of Duenweg Baptist Church, where she served as the church secretary. She was a member of the Christian Women's Association and the Empire Girls. She was a past president and current vice president of the Business and Professional Women, Joplin chapter, and was selected Woman of the Year in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy F. LeMaster, in 1966. She married James E. Thompson on Jan. 2, 1992, in Duenweg. He survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, one son, three stepsons; three brothers, Virgil Hughes, Oklahoma City, Ok.; Roland Hughes, Independence, and Bobby Hughes, Marshall; a sister, Jean Mae Scanlan, Independence; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Duenweg Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Boling officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Newtonia.
Pallbearers will be John Swab, Johnnie Felkins, Paul McCoy, Glenn Wilson, Charlie Mitchell and Chris Mitchell.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, Joplin.
Contributions may be made to Duenweg Baptist Children's Church in care of the mortuary.
