LEHI- L. Carlos Coates, 80, died Wednesday, December 28, 1983, American Fork Hospital of a lingering illness.
Born April 8, 1903, Lehi to Luther and Emma Lundgreen Coates. Married Valate Bagnell, September 12, 1929, Salt Lake LDS Temple. Retired from Geneva Steel. Active in politics. Had served as mayor of Lehi. Served in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including a missionto the Southern States. He was in several bishoprics and was Bishop of the Lehi 3rd Ward for over 10 years.
Survived by wife, Lehi; sons and daughters, Verl B. Coates, Tooele; Janice Bullock, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Richard (Lorna) Kieffer, Bountiful; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-gradchildren; brothers and sister, Donald J. Coates, Delbert Coates and Mrs. Nels (Leila) Kalmer, all of Lehi; one half-sister, Carrie Williford, North Carolina; preceded in death by Children, Vaughn Coates and Carly Dansie.
Funeral Saturday December 31, 1983, 11:00 a.m., Lehil West Stake Center, 1920 North 500 West. Friends may call Wing Mortuary, Friday evening 6-8 p.m. and Saturday until 10:30 a.m. Burial: Lehi City Cemetery.
