Lil Wrote "My life has always been fun and happiness, as a child and in my marriage; we did lots of on-the-spur-of-the-moment things. We all loved the out of doors, the rivers and streams and mountains, fishing, picnicking, and just fun things. Nothing that ever took too much money to do, because there was never too much money to do expensive things."
She was born in Cedariew, Utah, on June 8, 1912, in a little log cabin. There were no hospitals, no doctors, and nurses, just a midwife.
She was a sickly child the first years of her life, so her family moved to Idaho to see if she would be better there. They averaged about 20 miles a day from Roosevelt, Utah, to Idaho Falls, a trip we now make in a single day.
She was baptized in a creek when she turned 8 years old, not a warm baptismal font at the church.
Her family then returned to Utah, She met
Jim Summarell as a child, and they grew up to be the best of friends.
They were married in 1929. She had two children Della, and James William Summarell Jr.(Billy), then later adopted, two of Billy's Son's . Jimmy and Chane. Later she adopted two Indian children a sister and a brother; Carol and Teddy. This completed Lil's family.
Through the many, many poems Lil wrote, we know she found joy and humor in the everyday events of her life. Lil could find beauty in a tumble weed blowing across the desert. She described a walk with her father so vividly, you can almost hear the crickets chirping.
Lil and Jim spent 65 years sharing their lives with each other, caring for each other, and loving each other, and that love and relationship will continue through out eternity.
