Connie J. Lewis, 49, Basehor, died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with breast cancer. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with burial following in the Sutton Cemetery in Douglas County. Visitation was Tuesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in care of the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS 66012, (913) 422-4074.Mrs. Lewis was born on Feb. 14, 1956, in Olathe. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1974 and worked for Stokely-Van Camp and Hill-Kinbrell Environmental Services, both in Lawrence. The past 15 years she worked at her "dream job" as a secretary to the principal at Leavenworth High School. She was an avid bowler and was involved with the bowling league in Lawrence. She also enjoyed playing softball both women's and coed in Lawrence. She enjoyed being involved with her sons in their various school activities and any other activities involving her immediate family.Survivors include her husband of 18 years, Robert J. Lewis; sons, Robert M. Lewis and Owen J. Lewis, all of the home; her parents, Richard and Beverly Cates; sister, Janice Johnson, and husband, Martin; brother, Rick Cates, and wife, Emily, all of Lawrence; her mother and father-in-law, Walter and Shirley Lewis, Tonganoxie; 14 nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
