Haughton, LA- Bryant Edison Dougharty, 83, passed away October 12, 2013 in Bossier City, LA, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton Louisiana. Funeral services will be held at Smith Funeral Home in Newton Texas, on Saturday October 19, at 11:00 a.m. The committal service with military honors will follow in Ford Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on the day of the service at Smith Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Bryant was born on December 30, 1929 in Newton, Texas. He served his country in the Air Force for 23 years, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1971. He then worked for the Postal Service in Shreveport, LA for 18 years. After retirement he was a volunteer with the Bossier Parish Sheriff Department as a member of the Posse and an active member of the Willis Knighton Bossier Fitness Center.

Bryant was preceded in death by his parents, Bryant Edward Dougharty and Ella Davis Dougharty. Also preceding him in death were his 5 brothers, Aubrey, Alton, Talmadge, Adrian and Carlton and 2 sisters, Opal and Nona.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doreen Fitton Dougharty. He is also survived by his sons; Michael Dougharty and wife Catherine, Robert Dougharty, Clayton Dougharty and wife Janelle, three grandchildren; Jennifer Watson and husband Jeremy, Clayton Dougharty Jr. and Melissa Dougharty, step grandchildren, Jaime Hughes and J.T. Patrick, and great grandchildren, Madalyne Claire and Emma Grace.

Honoring him as pall bearers will be Neal Dougharty, Dale Kelley, Timothy Kelley, Mark Dougharty, Clayton Dougharty Jr. and Jeremy Watson.
