David Mann
Birth: Sep. 10, 1940
Kansas City
Jackson County
Missouri, USA
Death: Sep. 11, 2004
Missouri, USA

Artist. He was first began doing sketches in high school and then in art school, but soon his talent outstripped his instructors. Living a transient lifestyle from Florida to Los Angeles, it was while he lived in Los Angeles that he discovered his first chopped motorcycle. Upon returning to his home city of Kansas City, Missouri, he bought his first Harley-Davidson motorcycle and customized it. His first show was at the 1963 Kansas City Custom Car Show, where he rode in on his motorcycle with his first painting tucked under his arm. He entered the only custom motorcycle, and this led to a new class of trophy. This show launched his career. In 1971, a new magazine called “Easyrider” placed an ad for artists, which he answered. He was hired on the spot, which began his long artistic career. His artwork appeared in the pages of “Easyrider” for decades. His first painting, "Hollywood Run" was inspired by wild freedom and outrageous machines. It was considered to have captured the essence of chopper riders for that time. His second painting was "The Tecate Run." Capturing his own experiences of the biker lifestyle throughout the 1960's, his paintings depicted his impressions of the camaraderie, the parties, the battles, the hardships, and the freedom. (bio by: Sherry)

We share the same confederate ancestry, the same blood; the same passions; the same motivations. David Mann painted it best, a beautiful babe on the back of my softail headed into the west.
