Ellis J. Evans was the son of Ellis Evans, native of Wales, and Margaret Divine Evans, a native of Ireland.

He married Susan Elizabeth Miller, circa 1868, probably in Mississippi, which is where she was born. Between 1875 & 1879, they moved their family to Texas, first living in Calvert, Robertson County, Texas (1880 Census). By 1900 they had moved to Palestine, Anderson County, Texas and the 1910 Census found them in Marshall, Harrison County, Texas. Ellis was listed as a machinist for the railroad on all the census & retired from the Texas & Pacific Railroad according to his death certificate.

He died in Marshall, Texas and the death certificate stated buried in Marshall, Texas on January 26th. I believe he is buried beside his wife there in the Greenwood Cemetery.

(Informant on death certificate was his daughter, Ruth Evans Moore.)
