Homer was my beautiful black, silver and white tabby that I found on a hot August Day in 2000. He was a tiny little kitten, scared out of his mind. He was scampering along route 13 going into Delaware City and I was cruising down to a client's house to do an estimate for landscaping and out he popped from the guardrail. I thought I had run over him, but I wanted to make sure, since this would make me very sad and I would have had to take him home to bury him. Another car had stopped too, I guess because they saw a me looking under my car, possibly needing help. As soon as they realized it was over an animal they got back in the car and took off. At that point the little kitten stood perfectly still and I scooped him up and put him in a box in my car. I turned around and called my client and told her I would be rescheduling our appointment because of my little kitten surprise! She was fine with that, and off to my home we went. He was dehydrated, dirty and totally sweet. I gave home some homemade milk replacer and then he had a bath. A few days later he went for his first vet check up and he passed with flying colors although the vet seemed to think he was just about 2 weeks old. He grew into a beautiful striped cat and was a sweet as pie. He tried so hard to love his other cat sister 'Siri', but she just wouldn't accept him. In 2003, he was diagnosed with a severe congenital heart defect which the vet said would probably kill him. Over time his heart did seem to weaken, especially being complicated with feline herpes. He was a fighter. Several days before he was put to rest, he escaped out of the house and got into a tangle with a wild cat. He returned home with large patches of hair missing and a wound on his belly. That wound did not heal and became seriously infected. Due to the serious nature of the cat attack and his failing heart health, the decision was made to put him to rest. Homer you are in our hearts and minds forever! I will miss your yodels to locate me in the house and your attempts at resting on my hip while I was trying to sleep! You were a sweet boy, who didn't bite or scratch anybody. I will miss you always. Play at Rainbow Bridge and enjoy all the other friendly kitties. Say Hello to Sasha for me. I know you were welcomed to Heaven with God's loving arms and all of the wonderful creatures that have gone before us. I love you and miss you HomerCat. I will see you on the other side, Homie.
