Anice was the daughter of John and Cathrine Butts from Iowa. She was on the infamous Lost Meek Trail to Oregon that ended her mother's life from Cholora. Annis was 11 months old.

Member of the "Lost Meek Wagon Train" which passed through central Oregon in very destitute circumstance in the Fall of 1845. It was a party of 200 wagons, with approximately 800 people. They were looking for a shorter route to the Willamette Valley.
