Newman Osborn, son of John Osborn (1770-1849) and his wife, Jane Claypool (1769-1834) was born in Buncombe Co., NC. Newman married as his 1st wife,Elizabeth Justice, not Jester as some sources give.
After the death of Elizabeth, Newman Osborn married Judith Harris. This family lived in Buncombe Co. until their removal to Gilmer Co., GA. Newman and most of his family appear on the 1850 census of Gilmer Co., GA. By the 1860 census, Newman and some of his children are on the census of
Erath Co., TX.
Newman and Judith Osborn are both buried in the old Glenn Cemetery in Hood Co.,TX near the Erath Co. line. They are my ggg-grandparents.
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
on polished, marbled stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
one hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
and come to visit you.
