There he met and married Anna Maria Emerick (on November 18, 1831). During the 1830s, Daniel and Anna Maria moved with their family to Fayette Co., Indiana where they first settled at Lyons Station. For a short while, Daniel operated a general store. The family soon moved to a log cabin which was built along the railroad track that ran through the land now known as Offutt's Park. In 1842, the family built a brick house to the west of the log cabin along the Milton Road. This house was later torn down to build Offutt's Park. Anna Maria, jr. was just old enough to remember walking across the fields while carrying her doll to the new house. Both Daniel and Anna Maria were members of the Christian Church.
