Raymond Carol "R. C." Cunningham, 75, of Patterson, passed away early Thursday morning, August 12, 2004, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, following a short illness.
A native of Thompson, he had lived in Patterson for most of his adult life. He was a retired State Farm Insurance Agent and was also a retired school teacher and coach in which he was a former Coach of the Year. He was a US Navy veteran and was a member of the Patterson Methodist Church. A former chairman of the Pierce County Planning Commission, he had also been a member of the Pierce County Industrical Authority and also the RDC. He had been a very active member of the Patterson Lions Club, where he had served as the past District Governor and was also a recipient of the National Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was the son of the late Raymond Johnston Cunningham and Lucile Dollar Cunningham.
Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Lucy Anderson Cunningham, Patterson; a daughter and son-in-law, Rita and David McNeal, Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Elizabeth Cunningham, Patterson, and Freddie and Jackie Cunningham, Alma; two sisters, Sarah Kubeck and Louise Moody, both of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Gary Cunningham, Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, Dutch McNeal, Bailey McNeal, Brett Self, Reason Cunningham, Emmalne Cunningham, Ryan Cunningham, Brandi Cunningham, and Aimee (Jon) Deen; three great-grandchildren, Conner and Duncan Deen, and Peyton Cunningham; several other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 4 PM Saturday, August 14th, from the Patterson Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Hendrix and Rev. Jerry Price officiating.
Interment followed in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.
