Birth: 1725
Fairfax County
Virginia, USA
Death: May 4, 1778
Harrison County
West Virginia, USA

There is a great deal of confusing information online and in books about Thomas. Various birthdates are listed as 1717, 1725 and 1727.

Various birth locations include:
Marcus Hook, Chester Co, PA
Berks Co, PA
Cacapon, Frederick Co, VA
Augusta Co, VA
Arlington, VA
Elk Creek, Hampshire Co, VA
Buckingham Co, VA
Culpepper, VA
Dublin, Ireland
Glamorganshire, Wales

Most people seem to agree he was killed by Indian's at Hacker's Creek on 04 May 1778, but several people list 04 Apr 1778. NOBODY seems to know where he was buried.

Several parents' names are mentioned as possibilities including:
William Parsons Hughes & Mary Withers
William Hewes & Mary Withers
William Parsoons Hughes & Mary Withers
William Parsoons Hughes & Mary Susannah Baker
William Parsons Hughes & Rachel Sudna
William Parsons Hughes & Gunnilda of
Northumbria
William Parsons Hughes & Mary Boone
William Hughes III & Mary Sidney Withers
William Hughes I & Sudrah Boone
William Hughes & Sudna/Sudrah Withers
William Hughes & Sudrah Boone
Ralph Hughes and Unknown
Ralph Hughes & Mary Susannah Baker
Benjamin Hughes & Mary Ann Withers
Thomas Hewes/Hughes & Mary Tedrick
Silas Hughes & Unknown

It appears that his wife was Mary Susannah Baker, but there are discrepancies with this name, as well as the amount of children they had.

From a fellow Findagraver:

From Library of Virginia Land Grant records:

Thomas Hughs

18 NOV 1752, Frederick County: 419 acres on Great Cacapehon... "as by a Survey thereof made by Mr. George Washington..." (p. 230) [See also Thomas Hughs Land Grant.pdf stored on hard drive.]

William Hughs Jr.

4 MAR 1754, Frederick County: 460 acres on Cacapehon adjoining William Hughs the elder... "as by a Survey thereof made by Mr. George Washington..." (p. 427)

Hugh Hughs

4 MAY 1754, Frederick County: 480 acres on Great Cacapehon adjoining Thomas Hugh's line... "as by a Survey thereof made by Mr. George Washington..." (p. 440)

The Library of Congress Digital Archives has an image of a plat survey created and annotated by George Washington, for William Hughes Junr., dated 4 APR 1750. The survey describes 460 acres, with the "Cacapehon" River running through the parcel, in Frederick County VA, adjoining the land of William Hughes Senr. Also noted: "deed drawn 1753".

From "Early Records of Hampshire County Virginia now West Virginia", compiled by Clara McCormick Sage & Laura Sage Jones, originally published in 1939, reprinted by Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., Baltimore MD, 1969, p. 27-8:

Thomas Hughes and his wife Susannah, [daughter of Robert and Susannah Packer Baker], conveyed, via lease and release deeds, his Hampshire County land grant described above to Henry Fry [aka Henry Markley Frye, 1724-1812] in two parcels: 219 acres on February 12, 1759, and the remaining 200 acres on June 8, 1761. There is also a "lease and release" deed for 200 acres on the Great Cape Capon, granted by Thomas and his wife Susannah Hughes to Henry Fry, on 9 MAY 1763. Hugh Hughes also sold a portion of his land grant to Henry Fry on 9 MAR 1772. [Thomas and Susannah Hughes went on to settle on Hacker's Creek about 1773.]
