Siebert was born the fourth of five children to John and Mollie McDaniel. He graduated from Ames-Bern High School in Amesville, Ohio. After a short stint at Ohio Universty and working in a hardware store he was drafted for a year (turned out to be 54 months) in the Army. It was while he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood his good friend's wife was a teacher in Lebanon, Missouri. Through them he was introduced to Betty Ruth Hough, who later became his wife on November 14, 1942. Sieb was sent overseas as a radio operator with the 53rd Field Artillery-6th Infantry Division. It was while overseas he earned a Silver Star Medal for helping evacuate wounded men while surrounded by enemy fire. While in New Guinea he was riding a jeep when a bomb landed very close and shrapnel killed his driver. SInce that de he knew God had a special mission for him. He returned from overseas in November 1945 and January 1946 resumed his education at Roller School of Mines (having over 100 degree temperature daily as he was suffering from malaria). After a couple years he decided engineering was not what he wanted to do-he wanted an education degree. So in 1948 it was off to Pittsburg, Kansas to pick up the necessary education courses and finish an industrial arts major with math and physics minors. Graduating in 1948 he taught the next year in north eastern Kansas. In 1950 they moved to Otterville, Missouri and he continued 31 years of teaching/coaching/administrator in Hughesville, Lincoln, and LaMonte. During the summers he finished his graduate/specialists degrees plus always had time to coach summer softball teams. His church has always meant a great deal to him.
