Son of a tenant farmer and slave owner in King and Queen Co. Hazel eyes, black hair, 5' 8" tall. Enlisted in Co. A, 2/13/62. Sick in hospital April-May'62. In hospital again, successively as a patient, nurse and guard, 10/15/62-10/26/64. Detailed as a teamster with the Divisional Ordnance Dept. from Nov '64. Still serving as such as at 2/28/65. Captured at Harper's Farm (Sayler's Creek), 4/6/65. Released from Point Lookout, 6/10/65. Married (1) Margarett Brown, 2/9/66, (2) Virginia Emeline Atkins, 12/26/67 (2 children). Tenant farmer at Buena Vista, King and Queen Co., in 1870. Owner of a $2,000 freehold farm in that county by 1880. Continued farming in King and Queen Co, for the rest of his life.
