Clyde Taylor Higginson
Clyde Taylor Higginson, 89, of St. George, longtime resident of Pleasant Grove, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2006. He was born April 12, 1917 in Hatch, Idaho to George Taylor and Alzina Loveland Higginson. He married Thelma Gurr on November 11, 1942 in Las Vegas. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple. Clyde and Thelma raised seven children in the Pleasant Grove/Lindon area. Thelma passed away December 9, 1986. He married Ethel Meiners Orton on December 29, 1987 in the Jordan River Temple.
Clyde grew up on the family ranch in Hatch, Idaho, the youngest of six children. He graduated from Pocatello High and Utah State University with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He served as Captain of a B-29 in the Army Air Corp during WWII in the Pacific Theater.
Clyde was a professional rodeo cowboy and coached the first BYU intercollegiate rodeo team. He retired from Geneva Steel after 34 years of service.
Clyde and Ethel served in the Rochester New York Mission from 1988-89 on the Peter Whitmer Farm. They made their home in St. George and later at the Legacy Retirement Residence in South Jordan.
He is survived by his wife Ethel; children: Sharon Ann (Richard) Jensen, Sandy; Linda Joy (Jon) Perkins, Idaho Falls; Steven Clyde (Dolores) Higginson, American Fork; Rosemary (Jim) Yates, Flint Hill, VA; Debra (Robert) Barton, Mesa, AZ; Del Higginson, Highland; Kraig (Jeannette) Higginson, Orem; 257 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; brother: Cyril Higginson; foster daughter, Debbie Gibson. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Kenneth Jensen and Scott Higginson and foster son, Gordon Farnsworth.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Stake Center Chapel, 275 East 500 South, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Tuesday at the church from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday one-hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 72.
