Although Simon Pierce Burns obtained the rank of Brigadier General in the Missouri Confederate Army, he was not officially commissioned by the War Department before the war ended. He was known throughout his life as Colonel Burns.

Colonel Simon Pierce Burns. Twice elected Texas State Representative and was running for Senator when he died in Granbury, Texas while campaigning.
