George and Dorothea Aecker Kleiss immigrated from Wahlsburg, Alsace Lorraine to the USA in 1857 with their four sons. One of the sons died and is buried in New York. The rest of the family settled in Pesotum, Illinois. They joined George's brother Peter and his family there.
Barbara Hettinger came to help her brother Aloys with his 12 children (2 sets of twins) living in Pesotum. Barbara met and married John Kleiss and her sister Mary married Joseph Kleiss. John was the son of Peter Kleiss. Joseph and Mary Kleiss moved to Muenster.
After the death of her husband John in 1912 in Okarche, Oklahoma, Barbara came here to live with her sister Mary Hettinger Kleiss and family until her death. She was known as 'Aunt Barbara' and loved by all.
