Company F, 10th Texas Cavalry Regiment.
Confederate States of America.
W. V. Cogswell enlisted December 1, 1861 as a Private/Teamster for 12 months. The value of the wagon and harness was $200; 4 mules, $600, and camp equipage, $16.50. He was on furlough in January 1862 until February 15, 1862. He was present with Company F until March 15, 1863 when he was sent to the hospital. Pvt. W. V. Cogswell was captured at the Battle of Chicamauga, near Chattanooga, Tennessee, on September 19, 1863. He was forwarded to the Military Prison at Louisville, Kentucky, received there on September 30, 1863, and discharged to Camp Douglas on October 2, 1863. Pvt. Cogswell died at Camp Douglas Prison on December 13, 1863 from inflammation of the lungs, and was buried in grave #899, Chicago City Cemetery.
