George W. Balcom, 75 years of age, died at his home on Lincoln avenue yesterday noon after a protracted illness of seven years with Bright's disease. Mr. Balcom was born in Hague, N.Y., but came to this city from Gardner, Mass. in 1891 to enter the employ of the C.P. Harris Manufacturing company, being a chairmaker by trade. He was a veteran of the Civil war having served as 1st corporal, Co. E., 118th reg. N.Y. state national guards and took part in all the battles in which this company participated, including besides others Cold Harbor, Fair Oaks and the battle of the Wilderness.
Mr. Balcom is survived by his wife, Mrs. G.W. Balcom and a son, Arthur L. Balcom, both of Rutland, one other son, Frank P. Balcom of Brooklyn, N.Y., and one daughter, Mrs. E.L. Clogston of Jamaica Plains, Mass.
Private funeral services will be held at the house Wednesday with Rev. Joseph Reynolds officiating, and the burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
