Uncle Hoyt was my Daddy's younger brother, but was a giant of a man, well over six feet. He was born and raised in Chickasha, Oklahoma. After high school he joined the Navy to see the world, which he did. Upon his return to Chickasha he worked at a local radio station. A couple of years later he had an opportunity to work in Lovington, New Mexico. He later purchased the station.

He was well known in the city of Lovington, New Mexico where he owned and operated a local radio station. One of his favorite shows was "Man About Town" where he had invited guest from the local area in addition to some celebrities. one of his special guest was Dan Blocker who played Hoss on the television series Bonanza. They would discuss a variety of topics. A funny show that I remember was when they were advertising handbags. After the ad had run he mentioned that his mother-in-law was in town for a visit. The guest stated "speaking of bags and you mention you mother-in-law." The more they said the worse it got, however she did see the humor in the responses.

The format of the station was country music, but on Sunday afternoon you would hear opera as my aunt was a huge fan of opera.

I lived in Lovington for two years and enjoyed time with my aunt and uncle and cousin.

I attended a family reunion a few years back from my mother's side of the family and met some relatives that lived in Lovington that knew Uncle Hoyt. Just a small world don't you think? They spoke very highly of him and enjoyed his "Man About Town" show.

He was a great man with a big heart.

He is missed.
