M.J. "Penny" Pennington, 69, died Thursday afternoon in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta after an extended illness.

The Brace, Tenn., native had lived in Bulloch County for the past 45 years. He was the owner and operator of a feed service for several years before retiring several years ago and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary S. Pennington, Statesboro; one daughter, Mary Emma P. Ewing, Statesboro; one sister, Mrs. Fred Mitchell, Pulaski, Tenn.; two brothers, Robert Wright and Jimmy Wright, both of Pulaski, Tenn.; and two granddaughters.

The funeral service for Mr. Pennington will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of the Smith-Tillman Mortuary with Elder William Durrence officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.

Smith-Tillman is in charge of the arrangements.
