Enlisted for the duration of war on 3/13/1862 at Fredericksburg, he was mustered into Captain John Fielding Alexander's Company F, Virginia Artillery, (attached to) 6th Alabama Battalion Infantry as a Private. (This company became Company M of Spotsylvania County, 55th Virginia Infantry on 6/10/1862.)
Honorably mentioned for his actions during the Seven Days' battles outside Richmond 6/25 - 7/1/1862.
Killed In Action in Battle of 2nd Manassas, VA.

The 55th Infantry Regiment was organized in September, 1861, by the addition of four companies to W.N. Ward's "Essex and Middlesex" Battalion of Virginia Volunteers. In February, 1865, the 47th and 55th Regiments were consolidated.
