Forest Randolph Churchill Jr., 84, Bakersfield, Calif., formerly of Marengo, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005.
Born March 15, 1921, he was the son of the late Forest Sr. and Elma Denton Churchill.
He is a graduate of Marengo High School, where he excelled in athletics and academics. He attended Purdue University prior to serving four years in the Army Infantry during World War II. Following the war he went back to Purdue University and graduated in 1947 with a degree in mechanical engineering.
During the war, he served as an officer in many European campaigns until he was wounded trying to save another man's life. He earned a Purple Heart, Silver and Bronze stars and numerous citations for leadership and bravery.
He was formerly employed as an engineer with Roots Blower Co., a division of Dresser Industries, in Connersville, and was a volunteer in his church and the Boy Scouts of America.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, the former Imogene (Jean) Bernice Jones.
Survivors include a son, Edwin T. Churchill of Bozeman, Mont.; a daughter, Peggy Bainbridge of Bakersfield; a brother, Kendall Churchill of Corydon; seven grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
A celebration of his life will be Saturday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church in Bakersfield. Mish Funeral Home in Bakersfield is handling the arrangements.
