Sergeant Wood was shot and killed by a juvenile suspect he had just arresting attempting to steal an automobile. Sergeant Wood apprehended four juveniles in the automobile. He hopped on the running board and instructed the driver to drive them all to the police station. As they pulled up to the station, one of the suspects shot Sergeant Wood with a .44 caliber revolver. The suspect was arrested and sentenced to death. Sergeant Wood had been with the Nashville Police Department for 12 years.
A.B Wood was married to Lula Dorenell on Dec. 22, 1898 in Nashville. His father was James D. wood born in Mississippi and his mother Annie Jennings born in Kentucky.
